Are you using the same words when Speaking?

  • by

If YES! Here’s a way to improve on the words you already know! Firstly I am sure you already know a lot of words but the problem now is you are using the same words over and over when speaking right? Now, the great thing about the English Speaking Phrases is that there are so many options to choose from! So you can stop repeating the same words and replace them with similar Phrases 🙂

[[ Size kısa bir hikaye anlatmak istiyorum. İlk İngilizce eğitmenliğe başladığım sene (12 sene önce) herkese How’s it going? sorduğumda 90% ‘I am fine thank you and you?’ diyordu. Ve gün geçtikçe dikkatimi çekmişti çünkü biz Sydney’de çok nadir “I am fine thank you” kalıbını kullanıyorduk. İlk başlarda buna anlam verememiştim sonra aylar gectikçe aynı sorular aynı cevaplar çoğu kişi tekarladıkça aynı kalıpların kullandığını farkettim. Peki neden? 1. Eğitim sistemi. Kitaplarda öğrettikleri konuşma kalıpları sınırlı ve bunlardan ibaret. 2. Kitaptaki kalıpların dışına çıkma korkusu. 3. Merak etmemek. 4. Daha fazla kalıpların olduğunu bilmemek. Her zaman hayat felesemde tekrar ettiğim kelime Merak Etmek – bizi bilgi kapısını açar : To be Curious will open the doors to knowledge. ]]

Let’s get back to Phrases that are similar…Here are 6 Phrases I collected for you to use when asking “How are you”

Instead of ‘How are you?’ you can say…

  • What’s up? – Naber?
  • What’s new? – Ne var ne yok?
  • What have you been up to lately? Son gördüğümden bu yana neler yaptın bu ara?
  • How’s it going? – Nasıl gidiyor?
  • How are things? – Nasıl gidiyor?
  • How’s life? – Ne var ne yok/Hayat nasıl?

Your answer ‘I am okay thanks’ Instead you can say…

  • I’m doing well, thanks how about you? – İyi gidiyor ya sen?
  • Pretty good – Oldukça iyi
  • Same as always – Her zaman ki gibi
  • Not so great – Çok da iyi değil
  • Could be better – Daha iyi olabilirdim
  • Can’t complain – (çok şükür) şikayetim yok iyiyim

To improve your Phrases LISTEN MORE! Listen intently in the series you are watching for the Phrases they use and replace them with the words you use most. Hangi kelimeleri çok fazla kullanıyorsunuz – Liste yapın. Ve benzer kalıpları yanına yazın ve bunları kullanmaya gayret edin.

Have a great week!

Ella.
